--- The final season of Dexter ---

Dexter is a crime drama about Dexter Morgan, a man who leads a double life as an incredibly likeable forensics expert for the Miami Police Department and as an emotionless vigilante serial killer. Taught by his foster father to harness his lust for blood and killing, Dexter lives by his own strict moral code - he only kills murderers who can't otherwise be brought to justice. Dexter is a killer who grapples with fitting into society while, at the same time, he struggles with his inability to feel emotion. The irony of Dexter's life is that he works closely as a blood splatter analyst with the very people who hunt his kind - the homicide departments.

Storyline: Meet Dexter Morgan. By day he's a blood spatter pattern expert for the Miami Metro police department. But by night - he takes on an entirely different persona: serial killer. But Dexter isn't your average serial killer as he only kills people who fit a very prolific and precise "moral code" taught to him by his late father Harry (he didn't kill Harry, honest), and developed very thoroughly throughout each kill. While dealing with his daily activities and his boss, Sgt. Doakes, the one man who may or may not know the truth about his after-hours activities, he is given a friendly message by a guy referred to only as "The Ice Truck Killer" - a crime scene where there is no blood. This shocking discovery turns Dexter's world completely upside down. The Ice Truck Killer wants Dexter to play his game and Dexter is very eager to take on this cat-and-mouse chase throughout Miami. 8.01 A Beautiful Day - Six months following LaGuerta's death, a mentally-shattered Debra has quit her job at Miami Metro due to her guilt of murdering her. In her absence, Batista returns from retirement and is promoted to the vacant lieutenant position. Miami Metro investigates a new serial killer, the "Brain Surgeon", and receives the unexpected help of psychopath expert Evelyn Vogel, who appears to have a special interest in Dexter. Meanwhile, Debra is working an undercover job for a private investigation company to bring in a bail jumper, who had stolen $500,000 worth of jewelry from a mob-controlled store. Dexter goes to warn Debra that the person her mark is due to sell to is a hit man from the mob, but Dexter goes into a rage after talking to her and kills the mark, while the hit man secretly watches Debra leave. Quinn and Jamie have begun a relationship, which Quinn wants to keep a secret from Batista. Later, Dexter is confronted by Vogel with murderous drawings from his childhood. When Dexter threatens her, she states he can't kill her since she doesn't meet Harry's Code.

8.02 Every Silver Lining - Vogel reveals to Dexter that she helped Harry create his "Code", and asks him for help in tracking down the Brain Surgeon, whom she believes is one of her former patients. Meanwhile, Debra and the hit man have a violent confrontation over the jewelry, and she later murders him in his car. Dexter finds her blood at the crime scene, but hides it from the police. After he saves her from Quinn's questioning, Debra confesses to the murder, but asks Dexter to steal her gun that was found at the crime scene from the evidence room, which he does. Quinn and Jamie argue over Quinn's future and Batista's involvement in their relationship. Dexter tracks down one of Vogel's patients, Lyle Sussman, who he believes is the Brain Surgeon, but discovers that he has been murdered at his remote cabin. At Vogel's home, she and Dexter find a DVD from the Brain Surgeon, showing the killer talking Sussman into murdering the victim found at the beginning of the episode. Dexter agrees to track down the killer from Vogel's list of suspects, and Vogel comforts him in a motherly way.

8.03 What's Eating Dexter Morgan? - Another attempt to find the Brain Surgeon leads to Dexter encountering one of Vogel's former patients, Brian Galuzzo. Debra is arrested for drunk driving and Quinn comes to her rescue. Dexter attempts to reconcile their relationship by showing how she is a good person. His plan backfires, and an intoxicated Debra, consumed with guilt, confesses to Quinn that she murdered LaGuerta. Quinn keeps her in an interrogation room while he alerts Dexter. Dexter and Vogel try and talk Debra out of confessing, but when she demands they leave Dexter injects her with a sedative and takes her back to her house and leaves her with Vogel for psychiatric treatment. Meanwhile, the Brain Surgeon leaves matching his and hers brain pieces for Dexter and Vogel on Vogel's doorstep. Quinn's preoccupation with Debra causes friction between himself and Jamie, and Batista begins to lose faith in Quinn's ability to pass the Sergeant's exam. Vogel and Dexter talk about Dexter's love of Debra, which Vogel finds unusual. She wonders why Dexter didn't kill her when she discovered his secret, but Dexter explains that killing Debra was never an option. While searching Galuzzo's house, Dexter finds that he is a cannibalistic killer. He later captures Galuzzo and kills him.

8.04 Scar Tissue - Dexter searches for the next potential killer from Vogel's list, A.J. Yates. He finds him and discovers he has a scar on the back of his head, similar to the cuts made by the Brain Surgeon. He breaks into Yates' house and discovers a collection of high-heels in a closet, but is unaware that Yates is watching him through security cameras. Yates decides to go on the run after learning he is working with Vogel. Dexter later learns that Yates has copies of Vogel's case files, and discovers a file on himself. Meanwhile, Miami Metro has a new murder victim named Norma Rivera, who Dexter believes was killed by someone close to her. After passing the sergeant exam, Angel presses Quinn to solve the Rivera case if he wants the promotion. Masuka has an awkward encounter with a surprise visitor. Vogel begins Debra's treatment by taking her to the shipping container where she killed LaGuerta. Dexter meets his new neighbor, Cassie, who becomes attracted to him. Upon learning that Harry committed suicide because of Dexter, Debra causes Dexter to crash his car into a lake in an attempt to kill them both, but she survives and ends up saving him.

8.05 This Little Piggy - After Dexter recovers, Vogel tries to sort things out with a therapy session for him and Debra, but Dexter is angry and walks out on both of them. Miami Metro decides to step up its pursuit of Yates and the Norma Rivera murderer. They target a man named Ed Hamilton, Rivera's boss with whom she was having an affair with, and his son Zach, but Matthews asks Quinn to overlook Hamilton because he is a friend of the department. Masuka asks Debra to do a background check on a visitor he had recently, who claims to be his daughter. Meanwhile, Yates breaks into Vogel's home and kidnaps her. Dexter later discovers she is missing and Debra convinces him to let her help him. While they search for Vogel, Yates holds her hostage at an unknown house and threatens to cut off her toes before killing her. When Yates isn't looking, Vogel calls Dexter, and Debra is able to have the phone's location tracked. They arrive at the house and find Vogel tied up in a closet and Yates under a bed, and Dexter promptly kills him. Together, Dexter, Debra and Vogel head out to sea and dump Yates' body.

8.06 A Little Reflection - Dexter is convinced that Zack Hamilton killed Norma Rivera but has no proof and takes to following him whenever he can. He's more than a bit surprised to follow him to Dr. Vogel's office. She admits that Zach is a new patient but refuses to talk about his case. Batista is under pressure from Deputy Chief Tom Matthews to make a decision on who to promote to sergeant. When Quinn learns he didn't get the job, he redoubles his effort to solve the Rivera murder. With Dexter tagging along, it becomes obvious - to Dexter at least - that Zack is stalking his next victim, Sofia Fuentes a waitress at a yacht club owned by the Hamilton family. Deb's boss wants to get evidence that his sister's boyfriend is a skirt-chaser who sees other women. Deb agrees to try and lure him into a compromising situation. Dexter goes out on a date with his new neighbor Cassie. Masuka learns that his newfound daughter may have serious financial problems. Dexter believes Zach is a killer and searches for proof. During a visit to Debra's place, Dexter shares his feeling to her. Debra and Dexter later pass out only to discover that Hannah McKay is nearby.

8.07 Dress Code - Dexter wakes up in the middle of nowhere when Vogel calls him. He then calls Debra to see if she's okay and asks her to pick him up. Debra correctly deduces Hannah poisoned them. Dexter finds Hannah's current alias and address through traffic camera footage and follows her and her new beau to a members-only nightclub. While there, he learns that she is married and he investigates her husband, Miles Castner. Meanwhile, Masuka discovers his daughter works at a topless sports bar, and attempts to get her a job in his lab. Zach visits the precinct with his lawyer and demands Quinn to stop following him. Quinn tells Batista that he and Jamie are moving in together. Miles catches up with Dexter and orders him stay away from Hannah. Dexter meets with Hannah at her old greenhouse, and she confesses she returned to ask him to kill her husband. Debra borrows Elway's GPS and puts it on Dexter's car. Miles violently confronts Hannah about her meeting with Dexter. Dexter enters Miles' yacht to find Hannah has killed her husband and offers to help get rid of his body, and Debra sees them when they return to the marina. Dexter is called to a crime scene in his building: Cassie has been murdered and Dexter suspects it's Zach's doing.

8.08 Are We There Yet? - While examining Cassie's body, Dexter finds Zach's blood underneath one of her fingernails. He tracks Zach to a hotel in Key West, and Hannah comes with him. During the trip, Dexter tells Hannah he is going to get her a new identity so she can flee the country. Meanwhile, Debra informs Elway that there is a $250,000 reward for Hannah's arrest, and he agrees to help her. After finding her missing at the marina, Debra uses the GPS on Dexter's car and drives to Key West. When Dexter and Hannah get to the hotel, they find it has been transformed into a kill room, but Zach's personal kill attempt didn't go as planned. Zach tells Dexter he didn't kill Cassie, and Dexter believes someone is trying to frame him. Debra arrives and tries to arrest Hannah, but Hannah convinces her that she really does love Dexter. Debra returns to Miami, where she tells Elway she didn't find Hannah and quits her job. Dexter brings Hannah and Zach back to Miami, and they have dinner with Vogel. Following dinner, Dexter takes Hannah home one last time and they have sex. When Dexter gets back to his apartment, he finds that Zach has been killed by the Brain Surgeon, and Dr. Vogel has the jar. The next morning, Dexter finds Hannah and tries to stop her from leaving.

8.09 Make Your Own Kind of Music - Investigating Zach's murder, Dexter finds DNA evidence and learns that the Brain Surgeon is Vogel's psychopathic son Daniel, who faked his death years ago and turns out to be Oliver Saxon, Cassie's latest boyfriend who appeared devastated over her death. US Marshall Cooper searches for Hannah, but Dexter throws him off the trail and moves Hannah to Debra's house. Debra suspects "Saxon" of Cassie's murder and helps Quinn question him, but he goes into hiding. Debra later considers returning to Miami Metro. Dexter lures Daniel out of hiding but loses him, after which Vogel tells Dexter to let this case go. Dexter makes plans to leave Miami forever and take Hannah and Harrison with him, but not before finding and killing Daniel. Unbeknownst to Dexter, Daniel has reunited with Vogel, who warmly accepts him into her home.

8.10 Goodbye Miami - Daniel asks Vogel to help him like she helped Dexter. Dexter plans to quit his job, and tells Debra he's moving to Argentina with Hannah and Harrison. Clayton becomes suspicious that Dexter is leaving at the same time Hannah is rumored to be in Miami. Debra returns to Miami Metro and rekindles her relationship with Quinn, who has broken up with Jamie. Despite her desire to help Daniel, Vogel decides to betray him after Dexter shows her the video of Zach's murder. After an accident, Hannah takes Harrison to the hospital, but a nurse recognizes her and puts Clayton on her trail. Vogel brings Daniel to her house as a trap, but he quickly realizes he is being set up. When Dexter arrives, Daniel murders Vogel and escapes.

8.11 Monkey In A Box - Dexter removes all of the evidence pointing to his relationship with Vogel before calling the police. Elway and Clayton suspect that Debra is harboring Hannah. Saxon offers Dexter a deal that the two will leave each other alone; Dexter agrees, but secretly plans to kill him before leaving. With a hurricane approaching Miami, Hannah goes to the airport to wait for Dexter, but she is followed by Elway. Meanwhile, Dexter captures Saxon, but realizes that he no longer has murderous urges thanks to his relationship with Hannah. Instead of killing Saxon, Dexter calls Debra to arrest him, but Clayton tails Debra and unknowingly interferes. Saxon kills Clayton and escapes after shooting Debra.

8.12 Remember the Monsters? - As Debra calls and requests backup, the Miami PD arrive at the scene. Debra is taken into the ambulance along with Quinn. Hannah and Harrison travel to Jacksonville to board an airplane to Argentina because of the flights being grounded in Miami from the hurricane. Saxon travels to the hospital where Debra is staying with the intention to kill her, as Dexter spots him and Saxon is taken into police custody. Debra suffers a massive stroke as a result of a blood clot from surgery, the doctor claims it is likely she will be a vegetable. Dexter meets Saxon in his cell to do a DNA test, provokes Saxon to attack him, and Dexter kills him with a pen by severing his carotid artery. Batista and Quinn state a cut and dry self defense for Dexter. Dexter then takes the vegetated Debra off life support and lays her to rest in the ocean, and drives his boat head on into the hurricane. With reports of Dexter's death Hannah and Harrison live their life in Argentina. Following this we see a bearded log truck driver going into his house and it is revealed to be Dexter, as he takes a last look into the camera, the screen cuts to black.
